With American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds, Pennsylvania is building lasting assets. Recovery Act awards are helping to pave roads and fix bridges, fund clean water projects, strengthen a public education system that continues to produce academic gains for students, and improve our state's environment and energy efficiency. The Recovery Act is also helping those most in need through extended unemployment benefits, food assistance and health care. In the process, Pennsylvania is creating tens of thousands of jobs. Energy
Energy $14,046,454 *
The project will increase energy efficiency in homes by reducing energy costs and increasing comfort while safeguarding the health and safety of the resident. Eligible applicants are those persons or families whose income is at or below 200% of the federal poverty level. On-site energy audits are conducted on each home to determine which of the following measures would be installed or services performed, up to an average of $6,500 per home: blower door guided air sealing to effectively locate and reduce air-leakage throughout the home; installation of attic, wall, basement and crawlspace insulation and ventilation to reduce energy loss; heating system modification or replacement to increase the efficiency and/or safety of the heating system; minor repairs, and/or health and safety measures are provided (when necessary) to allow the safe and effective installation of the weatherization measures; energy baseload reduction, including CFL and appliance replacement, and; client education on the proper use and maintenance of the installed Weatherization measures and ways to reduce energy waste everyday. The project will weatherize 530 homes through 3/31/12.
The South Chestnut Wind Power Project is a 46 megawatt commercial-scale wind farm being developed in Georges, Springhill, and Wharton Townships in Fayette County. The project will use 23 Gamesa G90 2.0 MW wind turbines. Upon completion the project will generate an estimated 132,977,000 KWh/yr. Based on information contained in the Energy Information Administration's 2007 Pennsylvania State Electricity Profile, this amount of generation will offset 132,977 lbs per NOx, over 1,156,980 lbs per year of SOx and 165,822,223 lbs per year of CO2.

The project provides financial assistance and services to prevent individuals and families from becoming homeless or help those who are experiencing homelessness to be quickly re-housed and stabilized. Funds will be used for activities to address the jurisdiction’s homelessness needs such as: financial assistance with rental payments; security deposits; utility payments or deposits; arrearages; moving costs; and, motel/hotel vouchers; and housing relocation and stabilization services such as case management; outreach and engagement; housing search and placement; legal services; and credit repair.
This project will consist of the reconstruction of North Bell View Road, Shoemaker Road and Main Street in the Village of Hammondville; reconstruction of Slaughter House Lane and Upper Sandy Hollow Road; road reconstruction in the Collier Villager area; reconstruction of College Avenue; road reconstruction in Penncraft and Arensburg Village areas; road reconstruction in the Duck Hollow area; housing rehab for income eligible homeowners in the township. Road reconstruction in Chestnut RIdge, Thompson and Royal Village areas in the Township; reconstruction of storm sewers in the Dixon Blvd. area; road and storm water improvements in the Brownstown area; road reconstruction on Old Dinner Bell Road; water line replacement in Cornish area of Springhill Twp; installation of storm sewer in New Geneva area of Nicholson Twp.
The project consists of street reconstruction in low/mod income eligble areas of Uniontown. Streets reconstructed will be Esther, Madison, Crest, Jacob, Wayne and North Streets.
The project will consist of renovations to the Connellsville Community Center auditorium. The improvements will include plaster repair/painting, electrical improvements, sound system & lighting upgrades, and installation of an audio and projector system.
Installation of approximately 9,525 linear feet of various size storm sewers that will reduce wet weather flows from the Authority's combined sewer system. This is an existing system that serves approximately 2,970 customers in primarily low income areas.  This is an existing system and user rates are not expected to increase.
Installation of 22,780 square feet of pervious paving, 132 gallon rain barrels, 500 and 1,200 gallon cisterns, 3,083 linear feet of concrete curb within Ohiopyle Borough that will reduce the storm water run off impact on the Borough's sewer system.

Workforce
Workforce $779,087 *
The project offers the following direct and indirect services: Employment, Education, Income Management, Housing, Self-Sufficiency, Emergency Services, Nutrition, Health and Linkages. New initiatives and program enhancements include: development of a café business that will provide employment training for the supportive housing residents of Fairweather Lodge and Morgantown Street Apartments and supported work participants; re-opening and expanding the Community Medical and Dental Services in both Uniontown (Fayette County) and Confluence (Somerset county); development of a 21,000 square feet building to be located in Uniontown with 10,500 square feet to provide shell space to attract other businesses to the downtown area.

Food Assistance 30,177 The Recovery Act will help low income individuals and families with a 13.69% increase in the maximum Food Stamp (Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program or SNAP) benefit. It also suspends the 3 month limit on assistance for many unemployed childless adults. March 2010
Health Insurance 36,258 Low income children and adults will continue to have access to health care through Medical Assistance. March 2010
Health Insurance for Unemployed 6,700 The Recovery Act will help make health care available to individuals who are involuntarily separated from their jobs. A COBRA subsidy will pay 65 percent of the monthly premium for individuals earning less than $145,000 and couples earning less than $290,000. March 2010
Taxpayer Relief 62,148 Individuals earning up to $75,000 will receive a $400 tax credit in 2009 and 2010. Married couples filing jointly and earning up to $150,000 will receive a $800 tax credit. October 2009
Unemployment Compensation 9,200 The Recovery Act will help these Pennsylvanians with a $25 per week increase in unemployment benefits through the rest of the year. It also provides additional weeks of benefits. March 2010
